Change to Directorate

Ashtead Group plc announces the appointment of Ian Sutcliffe as an independent
non-executive director, effective 7 September 2010.

Ian is currently Managing Director, UK Property at SEGRO plc where he has been
a director since June 2008. Ian has previously held senior executive positions
with Taylor Wimpey plc and Royal Dutch Shell plc.

Ian was a director of George Wimpey plc from January 2006 until June 2007 and
Taylor Wimpey plc from June 2007 until May 2008.

The Company confirms that there are no other disclosures required under the
Listing Rules in respect of Ian Sutcliffe.

The Company also announces that, having completed two full terms, Gary Iceton
will be standing down as a non-executive director with effect from 7 September
2010.
