THE MERCANTILE INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

REPURCHASE OF ORDINARY SHARES FOR CANCELLATION

The Mercantile Investment Trust plc today purchased 30,000 ordinary shares for cancellation at 912.32 pence per share.

Following the transaction the remaining shares in issue total 99,055,719.
