Issue of shares under Scrip Dividend Scheme

The Company announces that valid elections to take up the scrip dividend for the 2009 final dividend were received in respect of 74,931,893 ordinary shares representing 27.7 per cent of the Company's issued share capital.

The board has resolved to allot 1,912,594 ordinary shares of 25 pence each to satisfy scrip dividend elections.  Applications will be made for admission of those shares to the Official List of the UKLA and to trading on the London Stock Exchange.  It is expected that such admission will be granted on 9 July 2010 with dealings commencing on the same day.  The new ordinary shares will rank pari passu with the existing ordinary shares in the Company.  Immediately following admission the number of ordinary shares in issue will be 272,166,025.
