3M and Quanta Computer showcase Dispersive Signal Technology for notebooks and netbooks

NXT plc, a provider of unique sound solutions, best known for its flat panel loudspeaker and touch screen technologies, announces that 3M Touch Systems has developed Dispersive Signal Technology (DST) for use in Quanta Computer's notebook and netbook touch screen platforms.  DST is a unique touch screen technology invented by NXT based on its expertise in bending wave physics, and is licensed exclusively to 3M Innovative Properties Co.  DST is currently in commercial production with 3M Touch Systems.  For more information on the technology, visit www.3m.com/touch.  NXT expects to receive royalty income from the agreement.

Demonstrated at the recently held Computex Taipei 2010 show in Taiwan, DST-equipped display panels have an extra layer of specially designed glass mounted with sensors that locate a finger touch or stylus input by calculating the location of the 'shock' caused by the motion of touching the screen.  DST also has an ability to detect both stylus and finger inputs with high precision, and allows for slimmer tablets than other optical touch screen technologies.  DST-equipped computers are expected to launch by the end of 2010.

Peter Thoms, NXT Chief Executive, said, "This is a significant endorsement of DST and its first application for netbooks and notebooks.  3M is a major customer with whom we have a relationship dating back seven years."

Voyl Divljakovic, 3M vice president and general manager, Electronic Solutions Division and Touch Systems, said, "3M brings some of the most advanced touch technology solutions available today to the marketplace.  With a broad 3M technology portfolio we can tailor touch solutions to the needs of our customers, like Quanta Computer."
