NEWMARKET INVESTMENTS PLC                           

                 STATEMENT RE TEMPORARY SUSPENSION AND UPDATE                  

Newmarket Investments plc (the "Company") announces that it will be unable to
post its annual audited accounts for the year ended 31 March 2009 by 30
September 2009 and therefore is unable to comply with Rule 19 of the AIM Rules
for Companies. The Company's shares have been temporarily suspended from
trading on AIM until such time as the audited accounts are published and posted
to shareholders in compliance with the AIM Rules. The directors anticipate that
this will occur by the end of October 2009.

The delay in publishing the accounts has occurred as a result of discussions
with the Company's auditor in respect of the going concern of the Company.

Update

The Company is currently looking at a number of opportunities in both the
leisure and property sectors which may lead to an injection of additional funds
into the Company. A further announcement will be made when it is appropriate to
do so.
