Fatality at OKD mine
New World Resources N.V. ('NWR' or 'the Company') regrets to announce a fatality at the Karvina Mine of OKD a.s., its wholly owned Czech subsidiary. One Polish miner contracted by OKD was fatally injured as a result of a geological tremor on the night of 10 September. Three other miners sustained injuries.
NWR extends its sincere condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the miner. Klaus-Dieter Beck, Chief Executive Officer of OKD and an Executive Director of NWR, said: 'Our thoughts are with the family of our colleague. We strive constantly to improve safety at our mines, however it is extremely difficult to predict natural geological movements.'
A committee comprised of members of the Ostrava Mining Authority, OKD management, the police and trade unions, is now carrying out an investigation into the incident. No further information will be released until the committee has concluded its work and completed its report.
The accident had no material impact on production.
