Solona Exploration Drilling Update
Solona Drilling Update
24 July 2009
Glencar Mining plc , ("Glencar" or "the Company"), the AIM and IEX
listed company with gold exploration interests in Africa, is pleased
to announce additional assay results from the latest drilling
programme on its Solona Licence in southern Mali. All assay results
from the recently completed reverse circulation ("RC") and diamond
drilling programme have now been received and collated.
The Solona Licence is approximately 250 square kilometers in area and
is held 95% by Glencar's Malian subsidiary company Glencar Mali
s.a.r.l. The area is just east of and contiguous with Glencar's
Komana Concession. The licence is underlain by Birimian
metasediments, metavolcanics and intrusive, granitic rocks.
Significant, northeast-southwest trending shear structures are
evident from the aeromagnetic surveys.
Previous rock sampling, mapping, Rotary Air Blast ("RAB") drilling
and Reverse Circulation drilling programmes had outlined three target
zones within the Solona Licence at Faliko, Niechilela and Badogo
Malikila.
A short combined reverse circulation and diamond core drilling
programme was carried out by Glencar during May/June at the Badogo
Malikila. and Niechilela targets. The objective of the programme was
to obtain geological and structural data which would assist in the
design of the pattern RC programme which is planned for the next
field season. A total of 698 metres of drilling was completed
comprising 510 metres of RC and 188 metres of diamond coring.
Significant intersections were as follows:

Hole SABM199 at Badogo Malikila intersected a wide zone of low grade
mineralisation (49 metres at 0.4g/t Au) within a highly sheared
contact zone between a porphyry intrusive body and greywacke
sedimentary unit, a similar geological setting to the Komana West
deposit.
Hugh McCullough, Managing Director of Glencar says: "Initial RAB
drilling at Badogo Malikila in the previous drilling season
intersected bonanza grades of 155g/t over a 4m interval. We think
that it is significant that we have now intersected a mineralised
porphyry body with close to ore grade mineralisation over good widths
in a setting with geological characteristics very similar to the
Komana West deposit some 35 kilometres to the northwest".
The locations of the two targets and a drillplan will be uploaded
shortly onto the Company's website at www.glencarmining.ie .
