NEWMARKET INVESTMENTS PLC                           

                         UPDATE AND PROPERTY DISPOSAL                          

Further to the announcement made on 22 December 2008, Newmarket Investments plc
(the "Company") announces that it has completed the part disposal of a non core
asset, the Barnham property ("Barnham") for £105,000. Barnham is a long
leasehold property with both a commercial shop and a residential flat.

Barnham is a non strategic asset which does not generate any revenues or
profits. The net book value of the property is £250,000. The disposal of the
flat leaves the commercial shop in the balance sheet at a value of £145,000
with a bank mortgage of £94,000. The shop is being actively marketed.

The Company continues to trade in line with management's expectations and is
carefully managing its working capital position. The net proceeds of the
disposal have been be used to reduce the Company's borrowings in line with its
agreement with its lending bank.
