Newmarket Investments plc (the "Company") was informed today that, on 3 April
2009, Tony Gadsby Peet, a director of the Company, transferred 7,000,000
ordinary shares held by him to his SIPP at a price of 0.5p.

Following this transaction, Mr Gadsby Peets' beneficial interest in the Company
remains unchanged at 7,019,200 ordinary shares, representing approximately 2.9
per cent. of the issued share capital of the Company.

The issued share capital of the Company comprises 242,659,100 ordinary shares
of 0.01p each.
