NORTHERN INVESTORS COMPANY PLC ('The Company')

PURCHASE OF OWN SHARES

The Company announces that on 11 December 2008 it purchased for cancellation under an existing authority granted by shareholders 30,000 ordinary shares of 25p each in the market at a price of 99.0p, representing approximately 0.15 per cent of the Company's issued ordinary share capital. There remain 19,395,440 ordinary shares in issue.
